Membership Tiers

  • Tier 1 (T1)
    Standard discount rate. To encourage members to develop a long-term partnership with the HKUST in terms of establishing research collaborations, internships and graduate employment.
  • Tier 2 (T2)
    Special discount rates applied to local research institutions.
  • Tier 3 (T3)
    Special discount rates applied to start-up companies employing HKUST graduates.
  • Tier 4 (T4)
    Special discount rates applied to start-up companies employing HKUST graduates and engaging in research collaborations with HKUST faculty members.

Other Charges

Lab Access

  • UGC-funded institutions* - HK$753/hr. (capped at HK$15,000/month) + other charges
  • Non-UGC-funded/HK Government-funded organizations* - T2 + other charges
  • Industrial Members* - T1/T3/T4 + other charges

Note: An access card without being used for six months or longer will be automatically suspended. A user who has not accessed the cleanroom for 12 months or longer will be treated as a NEW USER.

Equipment Usage

  • Four categories of equipment:
    Category 1 - Free of charge
    Category 2 - HK$20/hour, round up to the nearest hour
    Category 3 - HK$1/minute, round up to the nearest minute
    Category 4 - HK$2/minute, round up to the nearest minute

  • The calculation is based on when a user checks in and out for the equipment.

  • Capped at HK$3,000/month/user.

Note: For equipment usage, a penalty of HK$400 will be imposed if a user books a piece of equipment but fails to show up and check in.

Others

  • Laboratory materials that are sold at the NFF (CWB).
  • Gold and Platinum deposition, Germanium and Oxygen usage on furnaces. (Prices are subject to change without prior notice)
  • Mask making:
    HK$4,500/piece, 5-inch masks (except for UGC-funded institutions)
    HK$2,852/piece, 5-inch masks (UGC-funded institutions)
    HK$1,000/piece, 5-inch masks (for CRF2015/16 Co-PIs)
  • E-beam lithography process
  • Service charge, HK$416/hour (Internal job request)
